Bonnet Stops

Postby epipete » Fri 14.11.2014, 23:25

Whilst not the most vital requirement on my list, since I'm currently refurbing my Light Motors and replacing the Lenses and generally tidying the area up, I note that the rubber caps on my (rusty) bonnet stops are perished.

It's probably the easiest job in Elan ownership to replace these bits or would be if I could find some! Does anyone know what I am looking for, ebay hasn't proved much use?

I assume the bolt is just a length of M6 with a couple of nuts and washers.

Just did mine (dead easy job) and what a difference. Couldn't find anything sensible, so went to SJ's and got X046B6113Z @ 85p.

Pete,

The bolts are a standard hex-head M8 bolt (with a 13mm head).....

.... I have just (well, recently anyway) replaced all mine with stainless items. (but have used some stainless socket-head bolts)

The rubber caps are available from SJ's for 85p each (part no X046B6113Z).

I bought 8 of them - 6 for the bonet, 2 for the boot.

The biggest issue is paying Steve's P&P for a small order (but he's a business, so can't complain!) - as I had ammassed a larger order, it wasn't a problem.

That said, any 13mm rubber ferrule will probably do the job just as well, and there were a few on ebay when I was looking... something like this - the sort of thing for a walking stick or chair leg - maybe even something in B&Q or similar??

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?

Thanks Guys,

The wretched thing is so rusted I may have to cut it off and go the Stainless route (probably best anyway).
