Renovo hood restorer

Postby david924s » Wed 26.06.2019, 09:23

Finally got time and sunshine to restore my hood at the weekend unfortunately I didn't take any pictures.
I bought a full Renovo restoration kit from a shop on eBay containing, hood cleaner, colour restorer (black dye in my case) and waterproofing the kit also included a decent scrubbing brush, microfiber cloths, 3 application brushes, a large sponge, two small buckets and masking tape. So a full kit of all the parts I needed for less than £40.

The hood cleaner certainly does the job although mine took at least 3 circuits to get the dirt of many years out and from the colour of the foam coming off it needed doing, let it dry masked off rear window and bodywork then applied the colour restorer again this was repeated across the hood more than four times to get the hood back to black.

Top tip follow the instructions and don't do like me and apply in direct sunshine as it dries too quickly, so after finding shade repeated the process until hood black and even, allow to dry then brush on the waterproofing (bit like Nikwax tent proofer) so very liquid and needs careful application but easy to apply then allow to dry and spend the next hour cleaning the residue off the bodywork and windows but the end results are great hood even black, nice and taut and looks like new.

Word of warning and obvious really don't get the colour restorer on your clothes it doesn't wash out, wipe it off the bodywork immediately otherwise it is hard to remove and when applying the colour do it from the hood center outwards to the edges quickly to avoid getting a uneven sections, from experience these take some covering.

For the rear window which was badly fogged I used Meguiar's ultimate compound to cut out the worst of the fogging inside and out then to finish on the window Pledge (none scented) furniture polish, now I can see out of the rear window and although not perfect it is 100% better than when I could not see out of it at all.
