Hood Issues

Postby Elanlover » Tue 04.07.2006, 19:54

I'm now convinced that the roof (hood) isn't adjusted properly. For those that didn't read in another post, the almost new (1700 miles) Elan I picked up developed a tear in the driver's (left) side about 2 inches long. The tear is exactly along the known wear point in the roof where it rubs against the framing. However, this is only on the driver's side - the passenger's side is fine. This is after what is likely no more than lowering the roof 20 times in the car's entire life. Now, I appreciate that the fabric may have become brittle after 15 years but............Here's something else I'm noticing.

When the roof is lowered into the tonneau it doesn't seem to sit down all the way. In fact, I'm now noticing that the underside of the tonneau is developing "grooves" in the fibreglass where its hitting the frame when closing. Again, this is after minimal useage. Has anyone else experienced this or am I right in thinking there's something wrong here.

Anyone know anything about adjusting the roof at all??????

The groove is quite common even in low mileage, and hence low hood useage, cars. It's a known thing I'm afraid :(
