engine ticks over at 3000rpm

Postby nal » Wed 24.02.2010, 22:09

Any ideas to why when i start the car with the choke from cold all seems fine but when it comes off, the engine goes up to 3000rpm and when reved up it is really lumpy allso the turbo boost gauge is staying on 0 even when reved i cant see any obvious air leaks on the intake side ??????

erm.......you shouldnt have a choke as such...(dash plunger thing)
and you wont get boost by reving the engine.....
the turbo only works under load so you need to be in gear and moving......:)

cheers

Nal,

Have a look here.

If it's been running OK, then started ticking over at 3000RPM, it's probably a disconnected vacuum pipe.

You can test it by pulling one of the pipes off ... if the revs don't increase there's allready a "leak"

Check your vaccuum pipes first - pull one of and see if the engine speed increases.

My own car had a problem with the idle control valve (IAC) that had the symptoms of the engine speed increasing to around 3000rpm when warm. Search the forum for my posts or IAC and you should find theinfo including where to buy one. I found them on ebay (vauxhall part) and is a direct fit (no modification needed) for around £12.
