Who has 3 Bar MAPs? (Warning!!!)

Postby tigerdog » Fri 09.12.2011, 20:08

Please add your name to this list if you are currently running a 3 Bar MAP sensor with 550cc injectors. Reason? One of the side-effects of a 3 Bar MAP sensor is effective removal of overboost protection. This mechanism cuts fuel when the MAP voltage reaches a threshold. Because the 3 BAR sensor reaches this voltage at about 2 BAR boost, by the time the fuel cut would happen your engine will have already self-destructed. This is NOT a group buy, just an attempt to quantify the number of us in this situation. If/when Alan/ESM creates a chip that protects us, then we can change it to a group buy. Details for developing a new chip will be in this thread, if it ever happens.

I don't think you have any issue Tony, the risk Doug is highlighting is directly related to fooling the stock/mountain ECU... if you've got a properly set-up ECU and Boost control you shouldn't have this (specific) problem.

Does the Haltech have an overboost fuel-cut capability? If not, you're still at risk, just for a different reason. Who else has 'em? Come on, I know you're out there!

If 3bar MAP owners can reach a consensus on what boost levels they want to reach and what boost level is too much I'll put a specific chip in my shop. Failing that, if you send me an email detailing what you want I can do specials individually.

I've started hacking the 1499 (it has same base code as the 9949 and the 5849) with the objective of sorting out fueling for the 3bar MAP/big turbo owners.
It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but it doesn't take any to sit on your arse with a blank look on your face.

Click on my WWW link for information on chips and ElanScan.

I`m in, even though i haven`t fitted the Garrett turbo yet

What about 1.2bar boost and cut off at 1.3bar?

I'd be in to. Like Monty I haven't fitted the bigger Turbo yet (in fact I haven't bought a bigger turbo yet) and would go with the consensus, I'm looking for 250-270 BHP (flywheel) but may go for the smaller of the Garrett turbos to reduce spool up time and so maintain driveability.
