Turbo boost in 1st gear - M100

Hey, I've got an M100 and noticed that's there no turbo boost in 1st gear, even though revs are up to and over 4000rpm.

Is this normal?

Alex, you should get boost in every gear. What makes you think you aren't getting any? Does it not feel like its got any or is it because the boost gauge isn't moving? If its the first check you have no air leasks first, if its the gauge then check the earth on the transducer on the drivers side inner wing

Boost is not as simple as engine speed & I expect your engine is working normally.
You need air flow for boost.
You need load for air flow.
1st gear is simply too easy for the engine. There is not enough load. You may get 1st gear boost if you try accelerating up a very steep hill. You may not have the grip to control it though.

David, et al, thanks v much. Turbo gauge doesn't move in 1st, but moves in all the other gears. Think engine is working fine; minor issue. thanks for feedback. Alex

i feel the turbo in first gear kicking in if my foot goes a bit too far down, and the needle agrees, so i have to disagree with you. at least my engine does trigger the turbo in first.

It's simple: With a warm engine, make a full stop, rev to about 4500 rpm and do a clutch dump. Admire the turbo gauge finally moving in 1st (normally you don't drive like this so you barely see it moving in 1st...) and also admire the 2 black stripes on the road that end in a cloud of smoke!

no we dont. we just like to reach 30 before even leaving the crossroads. nothing wrong with that. perfectly safe driving.
