Allisport can make us an upgraded intercooler for about £250

Postby abmunro » Wed 13.01.2010, 16:06

Does anyone have a spare intercooler or live near Allisport

They are in small village ( Birdwood ) between Gloucester & Ross on Wye

They are prepared to make a new intercooler.

Jim ( Muley ) had one made there a few years back which is bigger in size and thicker.

We need either his pattern or somebody to take their car to them.

If we can get 5 people to sign up the will produce them for around £250

Email I sent

Lotus Elan Intercooler

Hello I am a member of Lotus Elan Central

One of our members says that made him a upgraded intercooler for £250

I wondered if you still had the pattern and were willing to make at least one but possibly more

response from Allisport

Hi Tony,

It has been quite a while since we have done any Elan intercoolers, and I would need a pattern again.
It may be possible to make one for the same price (+ vat) but I would need to get the measurements.
It would be easier to get to that price of for a number of 5 units.

Best regards,
Andrew

Tony,

I don't have a spare one, but if you're not in a great rush, it may not be too far out of the way for some travellers to/from Malvern?????? (just a thought)
Dave

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

Tony

I could go if there is no one nearer but I am not sure when it would be. At the moment I can't even see the garage doors let alone get the car out!!

I've seen a BRG driving around in Hereford. Not sure if he/she's on here but it was also for sale a wee while ago so may not be an option.

Anyway, my Mother/step Father live in Breinton, Hereford - about 8 miles from Rotherwas. I will probably be calling in before or after the Club Lotus bash at Malvern in mid April if that's any use ?

Just wondering, what would be the advantage of an upgraded intercooler ?

Is it beneficial on the exhaust/air filter/mountain chip set up, which a lot of members appear to have , to give further power, or is it only necessary for a larger turbo?

As I understand it

The bigger the intercooler, the more efficient it will be at cooling down the air,

The cooler the air the more dense it becomes

so the more fuel can be added

More power available.

IIRC i remember Costas talking about the stock cooler and his garage said the it`s plenty good enough for the shark :?

saying that, if your stock one is crumbling it make sense to go to a Allu Cooler, i`d have one if i could afford one

Here in the US, check out Top End Performance. They source a Spearco aluminum intercooler that bolts in. Not sure how their price would stack up aginst Allisport+shipping+duty.

It appears that the British unit would be cheaper even with duties and freight. At 250 pound, it comes out to $383.

There was someone at Malvern making replacement intercoolers for the Elan. I think it was Simon_P and friend.

Also in the process of making a lightweight hardtop - about 4 weeks away from finishing IIRC ?

Sort of - I sent coolexperts and old one they can use as a template.

I don't need one, see above. I suggest you PM coolexperts directly.

Hi Mulley,

Hope you are keeping well. Thank you for the old intercooler!! I am having trouble getting under an M100 to look at the positioning. I see that you had a bigger one made. I was going to make the tanks the full width of the fixing screws front and back and get the core as wide and deep as the top and bottom tanks. is there room to go any larger or is the outer size of the intercooler the maximum size?

Please PM me.

Kindest Regards
