Help im in trouble

Looking at turbo and given it a little wiggle as it was stuck, what has happened is the actuator rod has come away from the pivot on the turbo housing. I can just see the end of the actuator rod and it looks as if it only has half a loop there. The rivit is still in the arm on the housing and is all hanging loose. Where and what can I do from here.....

now that could be a problem, you will need to confirm that that part has broken off. It maybe that the circlip has come off

If it has broken then u`ll ethier have to replace it, but i`m sure there`ll be a way of bodging it

Been down there and had another look its deffo the rod itself,can I just order a new rod and circlip?
I can see this being a nightmare

Has anyone got any ideas how im suppossed to fix/bodge this, I thought about putting some gripfill around it as a temp measure

I'm familiar with the area but can't even picture the failure how you describe it.

Any chance of getting a camera in there and posting a pic or two to demonstrate it?

Using yur picture on the other post as its not easy to get a picture of it, the bar has come away from the pivot here.
The bar had a "O" on the end that the bolt/circlip connected. This has now snapped off..
The end of the bar is now a "C" shape

As a temporary measure, I'd suggest using wire rather than gripfill - it gets a bit hot down there.

If you can't find / make a replacement, you should be able to get a small engineering company to make you something suitable.

It may be possible, if there is enough adjustment, to have it flattened back slightly and drill a fresh hole. Or, have it built up with weld and drill a new hole in the same place. Either way check what the length is now before you loose track of the adjustment.

The best bet is to remove the actuator all together and take it to a engineers shop to see if that part can be welded back on or they may come up with another solution

I thought about getting my mig welder out and taking a small washer to the bar, that would fix it

Yep thats worth a try, as long as the hole is in the same place and the washer is the same thickness to allow the circlip to go back on.

Fixed the bar by slipping a lug over the end and crimping it, I had to cut abit more of the rod away to keep it the same length.


whats the best way of removing the circlip, I dont really want to remove the turbo unless i have to, othervise i may try an fork crimp lug that will clamp around the existing pivot pin

I've only ever removed the circlip with the turbo off (on a bench) - I used a pair of long-nosed pliers.

I just used s small flat end screwdriver but that was with the turbo out

Just make sure you don't use exterior pliers on interior circlips!

IIRC the circlip on mine didnt have any holes to use circlip pliers!

You just insert a small screwdriver into one of the slots and tap it off, as Monty said above
