boost creep?

Hi, not sure exactly what my problem is, but i'll describe it and see if you lovely people have any suggestions...
I have recently had a partial engine rebuild, turbo replaced, new 2.25 inch exhaust, wastegate ported, and am running an everest 4.something chip
the problem is has is that under heavy acceleration in 3rd and 4th, dont know about 5th i get to around 5.5 -6.5k revs and the CEL comes on, the power vanishes and the turbo pressure goes all the way back to 0.
The CEL stays on for 30 seconds or so, then clears, the car then works normally until the next time you put your foot down.
I know boost creep is a problem alot of people have had, but wasnt sure if that usually brought the CEL on?


any thoughts or suggestions greatfully appreciated.

U need to do the paperclip test to get the error code

Over boost will show a code, but if u`ve had the wastegate ported then u shouldn`t get over boost, maybe it`s a stuck wastegate

I agree, provided it's been opened out to a large enough diameter.

It could be, but if the turbo has been replaced and the wastegate has been ported, then I would assume it was checked for correct operation.

Cool, so a CEL is normal for boost creep then? never realised that...

well, you get the CEL from overboost = hitting the limit.

the ESM chip will do its best to modulate the peak boost -- hopefully you get the overboost CEL and no others; it's not impossible to encounter a CAS problem that shows up weird like this. If it's just overboost then be sure the wastegate is moving okay

is your Elan a S2? if so then cat converter degradation/corrosion of either cat could plug up the exhaust flow enough to still foster creep

is your new exhaust kinked over the front frame crossmember? if so then that restriction could be the problem.

Doug, it's an SE, not an S2, bought a couple of years ago from our very own WillB. The exhaust is not kinked over the crossmember, so dont think its that, will have a go with a paperclip and see what comes back. If It's overboost, what do I do with it, apart from not holding the throttle on full for so long?
