Samco Turbo Hoses

Postby cliff » Fri 04.05.2012, 21:02

Samco make turbo hoses for many cars including my Alfa GT, the originals have a habit of splitting!

I have searched the threads and not seen anything concrete about the Elan. I might have missed it though (Italian red wine will do that to you  )

I spoke to James at Amber Performance about this when I ordered my cooling hose kit. He said that he would need a set of hoses to send to Samco and they should be able to produce them.

I guess we would be looking at items 31, 36 & 53 in the parts guide page 42.01A.

The big question is am I the only one interested in this? I have seen many threads with various methods of replacing the turbo hoses and they all look great! I would like a simple plug and play version though.

These are coolant hoses - not air.

viewtopic.php?f=44&t=13798&hilit=samco+discount

seems strange James said he would need to send the hoses away when these sets are already available and LEC members get 20% discount? So £300 less 20% is £240

Too much confusion here........

This thread is about the TURBO (Air supply to engine) HOSES, not the Coolant Hoses (which already exist).....

Im sure Samco can make some, but i don't know if the pricing would make it worthwhile - may be worth a look I suppose - especially if they could offer a couple of options on dump valve fittings for the main hose 8)

Thanks Mr P

Just to clarify:

Pages from Elan M100 Parts Guide v6.jpg

Items 31, 36 & 53 in the parts guide page 42.01A.

Where does the dump valve fit on the main hose?

Hmm, I'm confused now :?

Pipe #53 is a metal one, but #64 (the dog-leg bent one) is the one I assumed you meant - thats where the dump valve goes (if fitted as an owners option), although I suppose it could go on the metal pipe #53 if required :? :?

oops, that's a bit embarrassing!

You are correct, should be 64. Glad everybody else on here knows their stuff.

The big question is what's the point?

The reason for using Samco Pipes for water is that they have all the physical requirements to carry hot pressurised water around the engine thus they are providing a vital function (particularly, as you are buying to replace often very old oem pipes), the fact that they look good is secondary. But it is the physical properties that you are, justifiably I believe, paying such a high price for.

The same cannot be said of the turbo hoses, where failure would not be such a catastrophe, but if Samco could produce a hose of a suitable calibre at the right price, colour matched to their coolant hose pipes, that might be worth pursuing.

Hmmmm, a variety of points in this one, I think......

....My first observation could be "Whats the point in most things we do?".....

....some modifications make the car go faster, stop better, more ecomomical, look better, or just because 'we can'. Who's to say which is a more valid reason than another? As always, some may be interested, some may not, but fair play to Cliff for asking

I fully accept that the coolant pipes *may* be more important (certainly in the sence that they are more likely to prevent catastophic failure of the engine), but turbo prssure hoses also need to be fabricated to withstand all sorts of stresses. Just look at how thick the #64 hose is to demonstrate this, and various others have replaced this one with a metal/silicone joiner version to minimise distortion under pressure, therefore keeping things a lot more stable.

The airfilter to turbo hose is only as strong as necessary because it is a ribbed design, but if the same strength could be implemented into a Samco hose, then that would be great. A smooth pipe would suck itself in and restrict flow.....

...lets see what can be done, at a fair price, to do the job (and look good 8))

I believe a dump valve or compressor bypass valve (dump valve vented back into the clean-air side of the intake) could go anywhere on the pressure side of the turbo, so any of the pipes mentioned could house it; you could even do a stealth install down by the intercooler if you wanted to keep the stock engine bay look.

Yep, Doug, you're right - it's just that all elans iv'e seen with one have it on that hose (but it could go elsewhere), as it's the easiest place to fit one aftermarket.

I spoke to these people in the UK

They are prepared to make any type of colour you like and any pipe you like, All they need is a set of old pipes.

If you speak to them please remind them that Tony Munro has not forgotton about the Oil separator pipe.

hi

sorry its been a while since i have posted. as mentioned above we are looking to produce the Samco turbo hose set, and an induction hose set, looking at the pictures above, i think the hoses would be numbers :

Induction hose kit :
066 - CL00E0039F
065 - AL00E0032F

turbo hose kit :
085 - AL00E0045F
086 - AL00E0028F
084 - AL00E0027F

there are also some breather pipes on air filter housing :

078 - AL00E6140K
080 - AL00E6139K
083 - AL00E0053F

are these possibly in the coolant kit ? or would some vacuum hose suffice ?

any input you guys have would be appreciated, so we can develop this kit.

best regards

james

James,

as a kit, I would be looking at:

IPC 42.01A

30 jubilee clip
31 A100E0032F Hose airbox to turbocharger
33 jubilee clip

33 jubilee clip
36 A100E0045F Hose turbocharger to charge cooler
38 jubilee clip

63 jubilee clip
64 A100E0027F Pipe to throttle body
65 jubilee clip

22,24,25 are vacuum hoses, not sure which size but I am sure someone will be along to sort that.

5 C100E0039F Hose Air Intake
6 jubilee clip

Not too sure about 5 & 6, these are buried but I am interested in the rest. I bought a few spares and am happy to send you 31, 36 & 64 to help with development

hi

when we build the kits, we would make a full turbo kit, no matter how hard they are to get to. once we have the kit completed, you can order part kits to your specific requirments, as we understand customers have different conversions on their cars etc.

ok, so we need all the hoses to work from. whoever can supply me all the hoses that we can tool up from will get the first sample set of hoses FREE of charge, to test fit, and confirm fittment.

any takers, please email me :D

cheers

I have been wondering if anyone has any news on these hoses....??

I would love a nice smooth hose to replace the elephant trunk from the air filter to the turbo.

I tried pm'ing James but got no reply.

Anyone know if they are still looking into the idea?
