Ive just had a turbo designated DOA by a turbo company, and this was the second in exactly the same condition they'd had, i also noticed ESM posted something similar, after asking alot of questions it seems our turbos are getting old and replacment parts are expensive or no longer available and it seems all of these turbos are typical for their age.
So I got to asking about alternatives, unfortunately they couldnt help but after pruchasing an LGM turbo upgrade incase of this eventuality, i got to thinking that perhaps this is something more people should be considering, unless theres an alternative im not aware of?

I wish I'd bought the smaller Turbo when I got the LGM upgrade.

i bought the gt2560 at the time and am worried about the lag youve experienced, id love to hear from a few more people particularly who've fitted the Gt2554r.
But doing a little digging theres realy not much between the two turbos, aparently there should only be a couple hundred RPM between the spooling. dont know if its worth selling the gt28r to replace it with a gt25r, but equally ive heard the gt2554r starts to run out of its sweetspot much beyond 200hp.
Im looking more for other people and ive been doing a little digging but finding specs on IHI turbos is tough, i have found an IHI turbo was fitted to a alfa 146, and that the vf23 is similar to the gt25r which might be worth a look....

This company are offering spares for the IHI so maybe it has not been nailed to the perch yet.
http://www.turborebuild.co.uk/There are a few other places around.
This company told me that they even had compressors in stock.
http://www.turboreparatur.de/Unfortunately when I took mine there for repair everyone was either sick or on holiday and nobody could be bothered to overhaul it in the time they promised. (the typical German disease - laziness!) The only thing that works hard in a German company is the coffee machine!
Lots more IHI turbo info here.

well thats good news....
ive been looking around and there are i few things i need to workout, im looking for any info on the turbo specs and dimensions, i know its an rhb5 v177, Also i could do with engine specs such as displacment, bore stroke, absolute pressure, and if you know these you proberly know what else im looking for.
I dont know other peoples thoughts, but it seems garrett is the easiest turbo to get hold of and has good spares, where as the ihi turbos might be a more direct fit. Currently im looking at both options but im assuming if we could find a good almost direct replacment turbo then that would be the prefered choice???
