porting wastegate

Hi all

back from a winter break. Turbo off and about to port the wastegate after my mountaine chip and piper exhaust/downpipe upgrade. Whilst this is all off anything else worth doing - was thinking of a samco kit but not sure it will give much back other than looks (not that I am against that) and most of the pipework will be hidden. Car off for retrim in 2 weeks also

I haven't done the Samco kit yet myself as their is still some ongoing issue regarding the fit of one of the hoses (see alternative threads) but I don't think that this is entirely a 'cosmetic' matter, these original hoses are now getting very old and the risk of failure is increasing!

Last year I had a failure of the Heater Matrix but was lucky that it failed at the end of my journey just as I'd parked up so loosed its water all over the car park gravel. My radiator looks a bit sad so will be replaced as soon as the weather improves which just leaves the hoses.

The issue is at which point do you assess the risk of hose failure and concomitant catastrophic engine damage as too high to ignore?

It all depends on how far you want to go. Fitting the Samco kit is worth doing as many of the original water pipes will be past their best by now, mine were in a very poor state.

If they have not already been changed, it's also worth having a look at the cooling fans, access is much easier with the turbo removed.

If you put the downpipe on... Add a deflector to bend the wastegate flow downward, or else your freshly 21,5 mm ported wastegate still is not good...

I'd say that a Samco set is a good investment as stated above Don't forget the heatervalve.

I would recomend changing your pipes Samco or otherwise, when I changed mine I could see that some were well past there best.
As for porting the wastegate, well I didn't go big enough if that's any help

Thanks all - Samco kit should be OK from what I read on my S2 - will look at the thread on the deflector also thanks...Paul
