Is it just me or does anybody else have difficulty in registering with the Elanchips site? The information requested seems convoluted and continually rejects passwords for a variety of reasons - not enough characters, need uppercase and lowercase, need at least one digit etc. Everytime I change to comply a different reason for rejection seems to appear.

Just logged in, worked on the 2nd attempt. Password needs to be minimum 10 characters, and at least - one capital, one special character, and one number.

Hello - just ordered a chip last week 20th July - anyone know how long I will be waiting? I know Mr Chip Man is busy doing other things normally, 4 chips were in stock and today its down to 2 so I guess others are ordering too... don't mind waiting but as I've paid already it would be nice to know an approximate eta??

Ordered when stock was around 8 and delivery was pretty quick, just over a week.
Not yet fitted but thought I'd better get 1 because new stock may disappear fast and new stock may not be for a while.

I assume that when you are ordering a V4 chip you are automatically getting the later one ?

So - first proper drive out today with new chip!

Felt fantastic - a real enthusiasm for revs and increase torque.... Definitely feels quicker and happier to rev!

Still getting cuts every now and then especially a quick up change from 2nd to 3rd with fuel cut.... So I suspect after a new chip and a wastegate wiggle I do need to 'port' the wastegate.... I will leave this to the experts at Kelvdon as I hope Mark there will be more than happy to help!

On a slightly separate issue in running green stuff pads but Kelvdeon were recommending the Pagid RS4 pads.... Anyone been able to compare these to green stuff?

The Pagid RS (blue) pads are fantastic compared to EBC greenstuff. The original Greenstuff pad compound was awful from cold and required the pad to be warmed up. They changed the compound to improve this but it still leaves a lot to be desired IMO. Probably still best suited for track days ??

You will pay a lot for the Pagid blue but well recommended

PS I have also found the EBC Yellowstuff pads to be much better for stopping from cold than the Greenstuff's (or Crapstuffs as I call them )

I have the PNM Hi Spec front callipers. Do you know if the Pagid Blue RS4 pads, that they sell for the OEM brake callipers, would also fit in the Hi Specs? Kelevedon are looking into it for me but it would be handy to know if anyone had already put them in the Hi Specs without a problem.

on this note just spoke to friendly chaps at Kelvedon who had not heard of the need to port the wastegate???? Mark is going to look at the car / Turbo when it goes in for a service in September.... will keep you all posted..

Mmm, Yes it is. Unless I am wrong ^^
The benefit of a larger bore exhaust is that the exhaust gases go out faster.
The direct consequence is that the turbo tends to spins faster, too. (*)
Of course the wastegate is supposed to control (limit) the turbo RPM by bypassing a certain amount of gases directly to the exhaust.
The problem is that the stock wastegate hole is too small for the larger gases quantity to bypass to compensate for a larger exhaust.
That means that under full charge the ECU can not really control the boost pressure, sometimes to the extend that it reaches its security limit, and the ECU emergency solution is to stop the petrol arrival.

* This is why a larger exhaust on the Elan is enough to gain a significant amount of power. The bad news is that it's not really controlled any more — unless one ports the wastegate of course.

But if somebody says specifically 'port the wastegate' you don't expect them to go out and buy you a new exhaust ?

You expect them to enlarge the diameter of the wastegate.

I understand that you should also put a better exhaust system on if you have fitted an ElanChip and port the wastegate, all 3 should ideally be done for maximum benefit and prevent issues occouring.

If you first fit a larger bore exhaust, you may then have to port the waste gate because the larger exhaust is allowing quicker release of the gases and the port can't cope. With a standard exhaust porting is not normally necessary. Therefore the porting is related to a larger bore exhaust!
