Lotus Elan Central

Not sure if I should post this in electrical or exhaust or turbo, but here it is anyway!

On the way in to the office this morning, my boost needle started freakin' out and bouncing all over the place. Car still seems to run great and turbo kicks in just as it normally does. I'm pretty confident this is something electrical-related, but not sure where I'd start my investigation.

Anyone had a similar problem? The needle just dances all over the gauge rapidly (I can hear it tapping both ends of its limits), but seems to stay pinned at the top most often.

My understanding is that the input for this gauge is from the ECU, not from a sensor hanging out in the turbo or anything. If so, do I need to remove the dash and investigate the gauge itself?

It`ll be something to do with the boost transducer on the right side of the engine bay (cambelt end) normally has a red rubber boot but there`s also silver metal version. Check the connections, if u leave the ignition on and pull of the wire which is on a spade end then the needle should hit the top.

Cool, thanks! I'll check that out. I thought the gauge read straight from the ECU.

By the way, have you done your cambelt change yet? I've yet to have the time to get mine taken care of yet...

I thought that the output to the gauge came from the boost gauge transducer, which lives just in front of the front RH suspension turret (it's that thing with the orange rubber boot on).

Sounds like it's got a dodgy earth to me. Anyone concur?

Edit - good old quick-on-the-draw Monty rides in to the rescue ahead of me (again)! Oh well, at least we agree.

Already had it done before i got u`r bits :roll:

but i didn`t have the idler or the tenstioner changed so 4/5 years time the whole lot will get done.

You're all so smart! The spade connector just came loose. All fixed!

This interweb thingy is way easier than reading them electrical chart dealies.
