wastegate diaphragm

Postby garymb » Fri 15.06.2007, 19:42

Just got my car back from the local lotus specialist where they did a ton of work on my SE-- suspesnison, brakes, belts, service etc.

When I got the car the wastegate actuator was seized giving very exciting amounts of boost but threatening to blow the head off.
I've since managed to free it up somewhat but the mechanic reckons that the diaphragm may still be sticking (as opposed to the actuator rod). Anyone had any experience of this? For some reason he thinks that although the actuator rod is moving freely the diapahragm isn't. Not sure I follow that-- but what do I know?

If it should prove necessary does anyone know what parts are available-- e.g.- can you get a diaphragm, or failing that a wastegate assembly? Or is he talking b*ll*cks?

PS: The boost gauge registers up to about 0.8 bar of boost at max revs after a few seconds , but soon drops back when I ease off. (I have a K&N drop-in air filter and a sports exhaust which may account for some slight over-boost) I dont have a huge problem with the overboost and I think it's ok-- it's not off the scale as when the actuator was stuck and it drops back quickly when I ease-off on the accellerator. So in a way I dont think there's much of a problem but I'm concerned that there might be one-- if that makes sense :?
