Door locking problem

My drivers (left) side door lock will not operate. With all the panels off, and the electrical connections disconnected, the door locking button will not "lock the door" There is tremendous resistance if I push down on the locking button. This is not the case for the passenger (right) door. I have compared the placement and location of the connecting rods with the passenger side door and all appears normal.

The door latch appears to be non-serviceable and no one seems to have a replacement. Any suggestions for what the problem could be, or where to find a replacement to determine whether the original unit is at fault. Cheers.

Tom: You need to disconnect the other linkages EXCEPT the one to the button and make sure all of the moving parts go back to their static positions. Try the button again. If it works, then one of the other linkages are holding it in a partial use position preventing the button to work. If it still doesn't work, then the servo has probably packed it in and you will need to replace it. The actuator is a standard GM part: 25664288 is one side and 16632014 is the other. There are a lot of other numbers used but they are all different generations of the same part. If you search eBay for each number, you will see prices and part numbers all over the place and I don't think the cheap ones are any less functional than the expensive ones. I never looked closely to confirm if our doors use the same left one as the GM doors. It might be our left is GM's right, so look at the pictures before deciding on application based on the GM designation of left or right. Try searching ALL of the numbers you find to get the best price.

To update - I removed the door lock from the driver's side door and found that the actuator was indeed broken. For the federal elan, the drivers side door actuator is, as BCN indicated, GM 25664288. The repair was quite straight forward. The actuator is held onto the latch mechanism by two small torx screws. To fit the replacement - (I) make sure the lock is in the fully open position, (2) the teeth on the new actuator have to be rotated so that they are toward the actuator arm, and (3), the rubber bumper on the end of the actuator arm (shown in picture) needs to be fitted into the cavity in the lock mechanism - this last part can be ticky because it is partially covered by the outside handle lever. Once the actuator arm is properly seated, the two torx screws are replaced and the lock can be reinstalled. My replacement actuator came with replacement rod clips and so I replaced those as well.
