central locking

Postby paulsmithmk » Mon 16.07.2012, 21:57

Please can anyone help

I have no central locking in my S2 - have tried some of the tests shown in forum but nothing - as in I hear no noise when I use either lock (I only have a key) could it be a fuse? The car also looks like it should have an alarm - censors on near rear view mirror and red light in central console but nothing works - could the two issues be related??

sorry If I am asking dumb questions - only picked her up on Saturday and have lots to learn!

Many thanks

If memory cell is working S2's had a fob to actuate the alarm so your missing a bit.

S2s are a bit different to SEs in that they do not have a CDL module - the S2 relies on the alarm module (I think).

i.e. if you manually lock a door the other lock will only be activated via the alarm module, If the alarm module has been disabled/removed you lose that facility( I think).

I had untold problems with the standard S2 setup. So I had the whole lot replaced and never looked back.

Of course, you might have a duff solenoid in the door lock - I had that, too.

Yes, our S2 CDL works off the fob, but you can manually lock/unlock either door without affecting the other so CDL is alarm based and not a separate function. If you want to check if you have one, the alarm module should be in the void under what would normally be a parcel shelf behind the drivers seat next to the battery but nearer the side. Sensibly difficult to get at!

As above, but the Gemini circuit boards in the key (yes, my master ignition key has the circuit board in the key head but the second key has just a flashlight) or the fob (the boards are identical and can be swapped over) are prone to failure. I sourced some from eBay, and had them reprogrammed at Gemini (you need the original code card that came with the car, though) and all works fine now - Gemini no longer have the circuit boards though.....

Removed????

They took the lock controllers out of each door?

I thought the S2 used the alarm module to control the door locks?

But the harness connectors should be there and all the circuits for the locks should have been accessable. Lotus even used to have a "generic" harness that plugged into the main alarm plug and gave installer access to the circuits without cutting anything.

Re: central locking remotes failing

Postby johnr101 » Sun 04.05.2014, 08:50

My recently acquired 95 M100 S2 had a problem with only one of the remote control fobs actuating the original Gemini alarm unit ( the LED on the remote illuminated, it was transmitting, but no response from the car).

Fortunately the previous owner had kept all the documentation (fantastic, thank you so much!) including the alarm key code card.
It's a 10 digit number normally starting with 42...

Found the number for Gemini alarm distribution in the UK through the forum - 08702 402554 (company called AVS at Clacton).
The proprietor was very helpful. The remotes are not made any more, but he has the kit to test and reprogram them. After a few attempts he was able to reprogram the (two) spare remotes.

Thank you very much AVS (they also supply much newer alarm immobilisers ).
