Can't open doors!!!

Postby Nippy » Sat 15.02.2014, 14:50

The story. Car on drive, hood firmly in place, battery is disconnected (intentional as I have fitted an on/off switch on battery terminal), so doors can only be opened with the key. On driver's side, key does not move the 'locked' button at all, passenger door, the button lifts ....but only so far and not quite enough to release the door lock, so cannot open either door. I suppose my question is: How can I get the button to raise just the little, tiny bit more so the passenger door will open? Is there a secret way? Without destroying the hood I am doomed, unless someone here knows better. If I use brute force on the door lock, will it all fall apart? Any help, however doubtful, would be appreciated.

Can you get under the bonnet? You could back-feed the power by connecting a jumper battery to the power post and a good earth (ground)in the engine bay and use the CDL/keyfob to unlock?

I should think that an appropriately bent coat hanger can be prised between the glass and the falling pillar seal and then used to flick the button up - this is basically what car thieves and the AA would do!

Depending on how tight the hoop fabric is, you may be able to squeeze you arm in between the hood ad the roof seals to get something in force the lock up.

Unless you know any local gynaecologists I would try the coat hangar trick first.

RAC are great for opening locked doors - they wield their version of bent coat hanger with great dexterity!

More through luck than judgement the coat hanger eventually worked! I was patient, I tried about a dozen times at 10 minutes a go and suddenly the catch caught and the button lifted. Thank you all so much for your help. Now I can dry the car out!!!

Pleased you got the doors open Nippy.

I remember locking myself out of the car at a service station many years ago. Luckily there was a local police presence...

They were very disturbed when I asked if they had a coat hanger or packing crate tape that I could borrow....

thankfully Like the AA. They popped the door open for me.
And didn't arrest me:)
