Head bolts

Postby ermete trismegisto » Fri 29.04.2022, 07:49

Good morning everyone. I'm having the head gasket change, and for safety I want to change the bolts too. Can anyone tell me where I can find them at a reasonable price?

Why change?

They are re-usable 8)

I prefer to change them. I had other experiences where, to save money, they were not changed. And I had to redo the job by spending a lot more.

SJ Sportscars have them, at a price, as do Kelvedon Lotus. I can’t see any at Rock Auto, following a quick scan, although I usually get my engine parts from them.

They don’t stretch, don’t rust, don’t get damaged and Lotus does not specify them to be replaced.
I’ve done 7 m100 heads so far, never a problem

But if it helps sleeping, replacement does not hurt either (besides the wallet…)
Good luck

Different engine designs use different types of bolt. Some stretch, some do not. Some are re-usable, some are not.

It is possible your bad experience was an engine that used bolts that must be replaced.

The Elan bolts are re-usable.

For those like me who only do restaurant Italian, here's a translation:

Eventually I bought them from SJ. I tried to place the order on the Kelvedon website, but the payment page did not appear. I do not understand why.
Rockauto, where I got the gasket, has no bolts. I think they finished them.
Now I wait for them to arrive from the U.K. , and finally I can go for a walk safely with mELANie. Finally!
Thanks everyone for the answers. And who knows if you are not at some gathering!
