I just changed my oil last weekend. I previously installed a K&N oil filter on under the pretence that it'd be easier to remove due to the nut. I can confirm that it's no easier to remove as there still isn't enough room to move the wench, and plastic coated nut doesn't offer much (any) grip. In fact it took longer to remove than a normal filter.

Dooh! never mind - I wont change it again till next year probably
I'll drop the drive shaft again it'll probably as quick as the faff that we have when we want to unscrew the KiN filter.

Picked up my (nearly) new drive shafts today - see Simon's items on the For Sale section hes got more or less a complete car breaking.

It does not leak at present.

I get the K&N faster out than the OEM. Ring spanner with a slight bend, and it's out in no time!?

access to the oil filter seems to be quite different between LHD and RHD cars. There are wiki posts showing how to reach the oil filter from above. that won't happen on an LHD car unless you're an anaconda. Glad to hear K&N works on LHD, though. Was thinking of that for my next change. Plus, I drive by the K&N factory outlet store every 2-3 months on the way to our cousin's house. Gotta stop in some day.

Me too. Only issue is that it is a 1" nut. 26mm is too big & a standard spanner or socket set does not include 25mm

I spent 2 hours trying to get the previous one out with various removal tools. I ended up having to unscrew it with my hand & suffered a huge burst blister.
I'll stick with K&N thank you...

So it also comes down to how you mount it in the first place

I would have done that if I could have got to it well enough. It is not a recommended method but why? If you are careful not to damage the threads who cares? It gets thrown away anyway.
What do you mean, how you mount it? It screws onto the mounting thread & this is something we are stuck with.

... If you don't oil it up prior to mounting, and you put an oilwrench on it for the last winding and give it a good firm twist just to make sure it's a tight seal... You'd be in for a surprise next time you want to remove it
