Unknown serious engine fault - PLEASE HELP

The paper clip test wasn't generating a fault and even the Élanscan took a few attempts to connect. More importantly, I've been done up like a right kipper!!! They ended up charging me over £400! Don't think I'll be taking my car back there again. There was another (red) Élan there too, apparently with the same problem. Wonder if they got shafted too!

SGT have been advertising as an "Independent Lotus Specialist" for decades so I'd expect them to have a Tech 1 Scanner or at least a 'half decent' way of jumpering ALDL connector terminals A to B ...

Hopefully the £400 included the supply and fit of the new MAP Sensor and Josselan's car is now running as it should.

Was only about a quid and much easier than trying to find the holes for the paperclip when your eyes are getting old...

If I didn't have my Elanscan cable permanently connected with USB plug conveniently under the central armrest I'd be looking at one of these, cutting of the OBD2 plug and wiring on a shorting switch ... Vauxhall-10-Pin-ALDL to-16-Pin-OBD2-Diagnostic-Adapter-Cable

Just to be clear - I used the paper clip but couldn't get a code - just "12". SGT used a proper scanner but it took a few attempts to get it to communicate. £400 included the MAP sensor (£200) and labour - which I still think is pretty outrageous; however, as an earlier posts says, it wasn't a major fault which could have cost a lot more and my Élan is now running beautifully.

I'd be going back to SGT to 'read the riot act'... "£400 for what? - 5 days?" How many miles have you done?

Hope that's it - haven't had chance to gat back at them. I'd did get about 20miles out of it though!

Update. On the way back the same fault reappeared and I found out that the garage broke my cross gate cable during the test drive. Changed the gear selector cables for the SJ ones (I'm now an expert on these if anyone needs any info) and fitted a new MAP sensor - this cost £30 off eBay and took 30 mins. New MAP sensor hasn't fixed the problem so I'm right back where I started but £600 lighter!

I would be asking or my money back from SGT After all, they've taken your money and not resolved the problem
