Oil Pan Replacement/Welding

Postby lotuselanman » Fri 23.08.2013, 19:18

Hello All,

I haven't been on here for a long time, as I have been busy chairing as the President of the Golden Gate Lotus Club. Planning events, going to the West Coast Lotus Meet, and doing a lot of other things. I may have met some of you during this past year that I have been quite absent from the forum. I have gotten to know Dave Ellis, Mel Boss and Joel Lipkin (He mentioned that somebody had made a Skid plate?) quite well over this time period. My car has been great to me overall, but unfortunately my baby has bled out all its vital fluids.

I was driving along Highway 1 and hit a pothole. Somehow, it managed to tear a hole in my oil pan and oil was gushing out. I drove for about 40 minutes or so until I got to San Francisco (From Stintson Beach) and stopped at the first petrol station off the freeway. Looked under the car and saw a puddle of oil. Looks like I lost as few quarts on the road, but there must have been a few quarts still left in the engine thankfully. There was no noise, no smell, no smoke, no check engine light, it just felt like the car was lacking a bit under hard acceleration. Hoping I didn't damage any of the internals. :|

I called Isuzu and found this part to be discontinued. Same goes with Dave Bean, and the rest of the places I called. Nothing used that would fit on eBay either. I was wondering if anyone had a spare one they would want to let go of? If not, I will have to get it welded. How much work is this time wise (for the mechanic) if it's on a lift with easy access, etc... to take it out, weld it, and put it back in.

Anyway, thank you for your help. Hopefully I will get it on the road again soon, already miss driving it! :m100:

Best,
Daniel

P.S. I would love to get more of the M100 drivers in the Bay Area to join our club and come to our events :P
