Can't find anywhere that says what the oil pressure should be ? What should it be on both hot and cold ?

Simon,

I'm sure someone will be along soon to publich the recommended numbers, but personally, I think that 'comparative' numbers are more usefull.....

....ie, if last week it was idling cold at 4 bar, and this week it's 2 bar - then there is a possible problem....... mainly because I have little confidence in the inherrent accuracy of the guage on the dashboard.

That said, my guage will indicate somewhere around 2-3 bar idling (dropping to 1-1.5 when hot, on a hot day, stuck in traffic), but instantly pick up to ~5bar when running.

On a cold day, cold engine, it can show somewhere around 7 bar at running speeds.

It all changes with the oil anyway - I got lower numbers when I tried using 0w-30, so went back to 15w-40 (probably psycological, but it made me feel happier).

Also, mine has done 140K miles, and is a tad worn, so a low mileage car should be a little higher.

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?

Ok cheers, mines probably about right, just hadn't driven for a while so couldn't remember.
It's about 4-5 when cold then when hot about 1 -1.5. that's on 5W30.
