Weird fault

Car starts fine, idles fine drives fine. That is until I go over 50%ish throttle, all I get then is a fluttering sound and lack of power. The engine management light doesn’t come on. It isn’t over boost as the wastegate is ported and boost doesn’t get high enough before the power loss.
Turbo seems ok as it boosts fine.
Coil packs are fairly new.

Any idea what to check?

Have you checked the wastegate to see if it's sticking ?.

How many revs? Which gear? Boost?
If you ease off does it pick up again? If you ease off will it keep accelerating?

Any gear, any revs. Drives fine the moment I ease off.

My first guess would be HT.

You are describing fluttering rather than a misfire. Is it the same as when you hit the rev limiter? To compare disconnect a sensor (this will set a fault code) to put the engine in limp mode which will set the rev limit at 4000 rpm...same effect?

I think TrevorB had the same fault and i turned out to be a sticking wastegate.

I recently cleared a similar fault on my “new” SE with wastegate wiggle. Actually, it was well stuck and needed some force to free it.

I took the turbo heat-shield off, so as to see what I was doing, but that wasn’t the easiest of jobs due to limited access. What’s the view of more experienced M100 mechanics? Do you usually free the wastegate with heat-shield in situ, or remove it?

I thought I’d tick a few jobs off the list today.
HT leads and plugs changed.
Replaced Cam O-ring seals. Attempted to replace the cam angle bearing, sproket? And pin but I could not shift the existing pin. Hall effect sensor replaced with the kit from PNM, it was a nice easy job, I just had to cut the plug off and rewire the new one.
The good news is the weird flutter at full throttle has now gone. Felt to be lacking power so have reset the timing as it was quite a way out. Hopefully test it again later this aft.

No offence intended. It’s tricky typing one handed whilst jugging two kids and also trying to focus on a archaic forum not optimised for mobile on a tiny screen. I rarely check my messages for errors.
