Hi if I drive gently car works well, but a heavy right foot and I get a pop and engine management light comes on. Revert back to a steady throttle and after about 30 seconds the light goes out.

Incomplete combustion creating a knock or backfire?
Using the right octane? Timing set correctly? Strong sparks happening at the plugs?

Do the paperclip test to understand what is causing the CEL . Keep in mind that it may be the symptom or the cause.

Its a symptom I had on track last year. The most hopeful remedy was to change the temp sender. I say hopeful because I've not been able to recreate the issue on the road, but its not yet got through the Castle Combe track test - that comes on Saturday! The theory behind it is that the old sensor was failing and reporting a cold engine when it wasn't. Cold engine = extra fuelling not needed until it builds and backfires. Calms down again when not pressing on and CEL goes out. I didn't get any codes, but the Temperature graph in Elanscan wasn't showing a believable temp movement over the laps involved.

I didn't get chance to catch up with you after your second round, did the 'logger' give any answers to only getting 3-4 laps before loss of power?

Sorry Nico, my bad. Much as the issue irks me, I clearly don't/didn't prioritise it enough. I did use Ron's logger with Gary driving on the parade laps (which were a bit more fruity than usual) but there were only three laps and really only at fast road speeds. The problem didn't materialise, but Ron has the file (albeit with a corrupt header) - but I'm not expecting it to show anything when we see it. Then later on another friend wanted to pax an Esprit session, then another friend offered a ride in a very very fast Exige (awesome machine similar on pace to Chris's VX), and all of a sudden the day was near the end and we had to clear off. Didn't even get the chance to catch up properly with many. That's the trouble with selfishly enjoying myself I guess. For what its worth, my thread on the issue is
here which will hopefully be added to at some point. I'll keep an eye on yours too for clues...
