Crankshaft Pulley Markings at TDC.....

Wonder if somebody could keep my sanity in check.
Have watched Toby's excellent video on cambelt change and read the Wiki notes. Just finalising doing it on my replacement engine so an double/treble checking my understanding before finally leaving it alone !

Tobys video talks about checking the settings every so often as things can move when adjusting things. He mentions removing the crankshaft pulley to check the pulley behind it , the one that has the half moon notch that lines up with the arrow on the casing.

In my mind , if the crankshaft pulley with the small nick/cut is lined up with zero degrees on the lower timing belt cover then the pulley behind also has to be in the correct position doesn't it ? As they are both positioned in place by the Woodruff key ?

Have I misunderstood something or is this just some extra checking as it's obviously an important job ?

I hope I've worded this correctly?!

You got it man
It's just when you are tightening the belt up that things can shift/squirm out of place. Just tighten the belt/tensioner before putting the pulley over the geared bit with the halfmoon, double check everything is still lined up (halfmoon, and camshaft gear marks at TDC) and you are all set.

Brilliant thanks for that thought I was going a bit nuts - the more I read and re-read it , the more I doubted myself !!
