over revving( or something like that)

Ok,as far as i know there are no lotus dealers or specialists in Northern Ireland, so i have to keep bugging the hell out of the forum for help, so heres another one:
as best as i can describe, this is what is happening, on startup, the engine often revs at about 2k, with this continuing even after the engine has been running for a good time either stationary or driven, the revs drop during load conditions, ie slowing down at junction(its the law, we have to di it) but as soon as i depress the clutch the revs pick up again to about 2k.on other days it will start high, then drop down to just over 1k at idle which seems to me to be a good figure.
There is also a problem(i think) in that during gear changes the engine revs do not drop as quickly as they should, giving a second or so of higher revs even with my right foot FULLY off the pedal.

Any hints and tips that dont involve elanscan are welcome.

I say dont involve elanscan, cos i have no idea what it is, and also i dont own a laptop as i have an incling it is a DOS based programme that you plug into a maintenance port, similar to some of the techy stuff i do on me helicopters(ok, the armies)

I had a very similar problem once with the engine over reving , but I also had a very strong smell of petrol too . It was cured by replacing the engine management temp sensor ( A100E6373S ). Basically the sensor was knackered and it was over fuelling causing it to over rev. I think they are about £45 from S J Sportscars .

I can't remember who had it, but this problem has been mentioned before. It might (or might not) be related to the idle air control valve (see links below). I believe Candles had some problem with it about a year ago.

Or it might be caused by a good old-fashioned leak due to a split hose or hose fallen off somewhere. Have a feel round the back of the engine and plenum.
