Heater is blowing cold...HELP

Postby stu » Wed 16.11.2005, 20:02

When I run my car the heating doesn't seem to be working.

Would anyone happen to have a solution to this problem?

Cheers

Two broad categories of problem:

1) The water isn't hot going to the heater matrix behind the dash.

2) The flap that mixes hot and cold air behind the dash is stuck at cold.

If the problem is 1), it could be a car thermostat stuck open or a blocked hose to the matrix. The matrix itself could also be completely clogged. I would check 2 before trying to diagnose any of these!

If it is 2), it could be the link to the flap from the temp control knob. Mine had this. If you climb into the passenger's footwell and look behind the centre console behind a crappy bit of foam around some wires (RH drive car), there is a rod connecting the knob to a lever on the flap. This has a plastic end bit and could have come loose.

Have a fiddle and get back!
