I have already had Geoff and Neil cast their eye over the attached log file. It represents start up to fan operation on my car.

The car is going into service tomorrow so i thought i would take a quick review of the results of the log. You can see where the thermostat operates but it doesn't drop the temperature as much as i would have expected. Also, there is a small blip following operation of the stat. Is this normal and are the operating temps/fluctuation normal?

It's remarkably similar to mine, doing the same thing.

So please educate me on this. when the stat opens (which as a flow control device is pretty crude) the water in the rad is then allowed to flow through the engine block. so for a fairly small difference in temp to occur the volume of water in the rad must be considerably less compared to that in the block or the flow rate is quite high then. Guessing it must be the latter.
