need help with ES data

Postby MattDon » Thu 10.07.2008, 14:29

ok this is my first shot at this, its all rather confussing, is there anything i need to worry about in this? also notice the power looks low considering the peco everest chip and uprated filter, also got a knock rating of 12 which means nothing to me but i know knock is bad. cheers

p.s. i dont have exel so i dont know if this will be of any use

EDIT... correct file types attatched from my first run and my most recent.

I was unable to do anything with the file, but if your knock counter is reading that high, i would suggest the base timing is out - i had a similar issue and found the CAS had slipped round to 22 deg btdc.

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?

Matt,

There is nothing immediately obvious, but it's difficult to tell in Excel. Dave could well be right as you appear to be knocking when you go on boost.

If you do another run, could you just use the save function rather than convert to Excel or save as text? The data can then be loaded back into ES which makes analysis and comparison easier.

Do you have a problem or was it just for interest?

been out for another run today i did a scan, but its much the same as the first one, im a little worried as it feels like the power is down almost like the brakes are sticking (but ive checked theyre not), looking at the graph it seems to indicate around 140hp, and thats with everest peco and nice filter, boost showing about 0.82 bar, Any advice very much apriciated.

where do i go to find out what figures are normal or how to interprate the data?

Matt,

First thing if you think you're down on power is to check the base timing. I should point out that your engine isn't up to temperature other than at the end of the run on the log above, so will be down on boost/power.

Also, be careful in interpretting the ES data - the power data is a prediction based on measured acceleration and 'standard' mass - if the road is uphill or if you're heavily loaded, the results could be slightly low. The other thing is that power is related to engine speed, so as you're only revving to ~5000RPM, you're only ever going to see 140BHP even if the car puts out 200BHP at 7200RPM rev limit.

cheers mate, thats much apriciated. i did notice the 5000rpm but thats not what the tachometer said and the engine certainly didnt sound like it was at 5000rpm.

i weight 100kg but other than that its very flat around here. im just about to go on another run, the engine is warm and ive taken out the everest to get a base reading. also the second run i did when it was warm showed very similar results.

im going to do a search on base timing, im not mechanic but im enjoying learning as i go.

again thankyou so much for taking the time to look at this.

No problem. Here's a Wiki write up on setting the base timing.

having looked at everything i could find on base timing ive decided its abit beyond me. im on a tight budget at the moment should i get the local lotus specialist to check this out or is it something i can trust ATS euromaster with?
