Can someone please analyse my Elan Scan parameters

Postby sheprob » Tue 10.10.2006, 15:10

Hi,

I'm new to this site, so I hope this is the correct way to download Elan Scan results.
I am having a problem with cold and warm (i.e after say a 1-2 hour stop) starting. However, it is always fine after a short stop to fill up with petrol.
Basically, it will just turn over but not fire. It will normally start on the second attempt, but even then I sometimes give up (i.e stop cranking) it miraculoulsly creeps into life. :?
This is very embarrassing.
I thought it might be the CTS sensor, but the reading looks about right.
Has anybody had any similar experiences? Any ideas?

Many thanks.

No I don't, but oddly enough someone else mentioned that as well.
I'm hoping someone will look at my Elan Scan parameters and go "it's obviously......". But maybe that's too much like wishful thinking...... :)

Thanks for the feedback though.

Rob,

I'm a complete novice at interpreting ElanScan runs, so this may only give a pointer to others as to where to look: The only things I can see which don't look right are Flag 41 (Air fuel mode) bit 6 (Rich) and Flag 48 bit 5 (stalled) which are both wanging around. Calling all Philistines!

If your problem is repeatable, why don't you hook up a scan when you know it's not going to start?

Hi Rob,

hope the car is going ok, it has always done this, I was under the impression that it was the fuel evaporating in the fuel line when left to stand after the engine had heated up.

Never had a real problem with it not starting after the second atempt though.

Hi Rob,

I am enjoying the car :P
I'm sure something is slighty asmiss with regard to the starting, so I'm going to look at the fuel side. Starting with a new fuel filter, putting some injector cleaner in and see how it goes.
As my friends would tell you, I'm only happy when I'm fixing cars :-)

I'll let you know what the problem was, when its fixed. I'm sure it's going to be something silly.

Regards

Rob

P.S. Have you decided on your new car yet.
P.P.S I hope you don't mind me using your car logo. I thought it could live on with the car.

Green to blue is easy but some silly bugger left their car out on the road when the council were painting yellow lines. :smt043

Rob, didn't know you'd sold the Elan! Looking at the TT it seems more a case of SIB rather than BIB! All the best.

Hi Rob,

Did you ever get to the bottom of your problem? I seem to have a similar thing and would be interested in how your diagnosis went.

Thanks

Hi Rob,

as above did you solve the problem or are you still happy just looking for the cause ;-)

The TT lasted 4 weeks, the gear box was sh1t (just like the Boxster  ) left it with the 'EX' who sold it shortly after.
