Bit late to the party with this update since the driver is dated February 2009, but if you've been having problems with your USB to Serial COM Port drivers you may want to try the latest driver from FTDI Chip. I've successfully installed and run ElanScan using this driver in Windows XP (Service Pack 3). From the download page it looks like they have drivers for most other common platforms including Windows Vista, Mac OS X, Windows CE and Linux!
FTDI Chip - Virtual COM Port Drivers - ALL OS

I"ve been happily running mine under Windows 2000 since I first received the cable. Of course, how often does anyone update a driver for Windows 2000?

Thanks for the pointer. Some day I may have to put ElanScan on a machine with an operating system written during this century.

Thanks Iain. I've updated the .inf to automatically set the latency to 1ms but the new router (I think) is not allowing me to upload it at the minute....
