1st scan

Hi,

Having bought the cable, and downloaded the s/w many moons ago, I finally "had" to run elanscan today.

Not much luck in interpretation though, so any advice is appreciated.

The wastegate is working fine.
The thermostat is possibly playing up.
New cam belt was fitted at the week end
Hit a pot hole today, and exhaust developed a blow just before scan.

No power on boost.

To start with, open Elanscan & load your file. The graph on the right defaults to speed v tine. I can see from this that the engine was idling while you were logging data.
If you change vehicle speed for colant temp, the graph will show you the temp falling to 92c before climbing again.

A bit more time logging data would be helpful, but your coolant temp does look a little high.
I've checked several other Elans & their stats appear to maintain temperature at 85c which is well below yours.

Some other scans would be useful:
One taken with the engine off & before you have run it during the day. The coolant temp sensor should be reading similar to ambient temp & you will have a good idea of what this will be (ie. if you are confortable in just a t-shirt then it will be around 20-30c).
Start it then drive untol the engine warms. The stat should maintain temp at about 85c. Stop the car but leave the engine idling. You should see the coolant temp climb until the fans start then drop until the fans stop. I don't have any scans to compare for fan temps.

This one will show you a reasonable temperature range - it shows the start coolant temp at 80 deg, increasing to about 84 when the thermostat opens, dropping back to 82, then climbing steadilly to 112 when the fans cut in, dropping to 102 (fans stop) climbing back to 112 (fans come on) then dropping as the car is driven (fans on, then just air flow), settling to 85-88 during the run.

Thank you for both replies.

I did actually log while the car was running, but I notice the speed shows 0 mph, obviously a user error.

I will re run using your advice of a cold start up, and I will compare the graph to the one posted.
