About OBD1 10pin connector on Elan M100

I am looking at the cable (male OBD1 10pin / USB) for ElanScan.
I see that male OBD1 10pin connector has 3 pins sticking out.
They are pin A, pin F, and pin G.
So, I suppose those 3 pins provide sufficient information to ElanScan to interpret data.




Is it fair to say that the female OBD1 10pin connector on Elan M100, although having 10 pins, has only 3 USEFUL pins. All other 7 pins are for show.
Well, perhaps 6 pins (7 minus 1) are for show. To use PAPERCLIP test, one must use pin A and pin B. Therefore, A,B,F,G pins are useful.

The reason I ask is that I am interested installing a HUD (head up display) which has an male OBD2 16pin connector. I also have found a cable (male OBD1 10pin connector/ female OBD2 16pin connector). Is it doable?

Above shows the PINs' locations on OBD1 connector.

Connecting "A" and "B" will enter the diagnostic mode.

"A" pin has BLACK color wire.
"B" Pin has BLACK/WHITE color wire.

Who can confirm that "A" pin is the Ground and "F" pin is the Positive (+12v)?

If I were to connect a 12v power source to "A" pin and "F" pin, does it mean that Elan M100 ECU data will remain even when the main 12V battery is cut off.

I suggest you have a look at the electrical section of the manual, I'm sure that makes it clear.
