Elanscan ?

Hi all
I have seen this term pop up ..."Elanscan" ... and its referenced in a number of threads ... and sounds like somewhere you can get the software to read the ECU ...
just been searching ... and cannot find this info ... and what lead do you need if this does exist ....

BTW .. this started because my new baby runs really cold .... only gets up to the 1/4 marker in water temp ....

appears to be a good story here on this by the number of posts .... but I cannot determine whats true or false (hence the look for elanscan) ...

Hi and welcome to the forum. "Elanscan" has its own section on the forum - should have been easy enough to find but here's the link. As for the temperature, Elans tend to run hot, not cold and given where you live I'd expect yours to have no problems getting to the 1/2 to 3/4 mark where it normally resides. Could be anything including a faulty thermostat but Elanscan can help diagnose the issue as well as being a useful tool in general.

To add to Neil's comments, the gauge on the majority of Elans is highly inaccurate, or to be more precise is not linear with the actual temp rise.

Most will sit somewhere between 0 and the first mark under normal running. Once you stop in traffic and are stationary for a while it will slowly rise to about 3/4 at which point the fans should come on, then the temp/gauge will drop a bit and the fans go off, then rise, fans on etc etc Once you start driving again, the gauge will quickly drop back to 0 to first mark, IF everything is OK. As Neil says, only doing a scan will tell the truth and determine if the thermostat is functioning correctly.

Try leaving the engine running on the drive for about 15-20 mins or so: this will bring the temp up to c3/4 and start the fans on/off cycle. Watch the gauge at the same time. IF everything is OK this should happen and you will not overheat. As you are in Oz, it may happen sooner than 15-20 mins, depending on ambient temperatures. This will also tell you if the fans are working properly. (obviously!)

Hi Type 25. Yay Another M100 owner in Melbourne! I have an elan scan cable and could lend it to you with an appropriate laptop if necessary. I've only done a couple of scans on my car but teh amount of information elanscan collects is awsome.
