Diagnostic check

Hi all
Just done 1250 mls around Scotland ,car went well apart from second day,engine coughed a couple of times and EML light came on for 5-10 mins each time ,been great since I got back ,but,would like it checked out with computer,,I have parts to make cable and an old computer with windows 7 (possibly too old) to download elan scan ,but not sure how to do this ,is anybody close to me (Middlesbrough)who can help with download + guidance on how to use ,I need to progress with this or it will hinder my future with the car

I'm nowhere near to you, and crap with a soldering iron.....

.... however, I can tell you that any PC that can run W7 is more than good enough for Elanscan. It was designed well before W7, and is considered to be a Win-XP program. (I still have it running on a really old IBM T22 (before they sold out to Lenovo, that's how old it is!).

I have the parts to make the cable and I’m pretty good with a soldering iron , but computers ! I know very little about ,don’t know how to down load the appropriate programs let alone how to use them ,could do with a practical lesson ,I’m a good learner ,,,I’ve had the m100 a year now but unless I can master this elan scan I don’t feel confident about the car so may have to let her go ,which would be a great shame as I’m really enjoying her

Ahh well !!
It was worth an ask ,only one reply (which I’m very grateful for) to my cry for help ! Expected more to be honest ! It was my next big step in understanding the M100se ,along with the circlip test,,,,with so few Lotus dealers available I feel it’s important to be able to diagnose faults - current + historic as I have a few long journeys planned this year including a group run to Europe which is currently on hold because of my dilemma ,,,gutted

Just seen this.
When logged in on your laptop, tap the Manuals tab at top, then scroll down to find Elanscan. Tap on it to download.
Once downloaded, open it, plug in your cable start up car and should be working.

You may need to select Com Port, not sure. That's in the settings. Try each one til it works.

Then just play with it to see what it reads and look for fault codes if any.

Windows 7 should work a treat with the ElanScan version on the Wix site.
There's a fixed version that works with the latest releases of windows 10-11 Here.

elanscan and the computer can help. but you can live with an m100 for many years and rive it regularly without it... i only got mine a few months ago, and i certaily done enough miles to know how often it was helpful.

you do have someone local with a cable, I assume also knows how to use it. your just not asking in the right place.
