Would generic GM scan tools work with the Elan?

Since it seems a TECH1 tool is what the service manual refers to, would most other generic pre-OBDII scanners work? I've been looking at the Autoxray 6000: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270030215496&fromMakeTrack=true for around $400 which seem good as is also covers Fords and Chryslers that I may own.

I don't think so. No Lotus is listed in the vehicles covered and the Elan datastream is not the same as any other GM application that I know of.
It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but it doesn't take any to sit on your arse with a blank look on your face.

Click on my WWW link for information on chips and ElanScan.
