how does elanscan work?

Postby mickmick » Fri 22.12.2006, 15:55

ok, i have a laptop

i have a cable (thanks Geoff)

i have the elanscan programme

i even have an elan!!!

i've plugged in the cable to the car, then in the lappy, then started up and gone for a drive.

I appear to have saved some data into a file

Now what do i do with the data, is there a guide for using the info etc etc??

Mick
now i have one, i just want to keep tinkering with it!!!!!!!
sorry mum :(

More to the point, what do you want to get out of it?

The data itself is not very useful unless you have a purpose.

When I first got hooked up I was interested in how much boost the car was developing, pre and post chip upgrade.

The other day I wanted to adjust the TPS, so the data in Elanscan helped me do that.

Paul P used it to see if his secondaries were opening as they should.

You could see what your 0-60 time is if you did a flat out run, or the 30-70 time etc

If you want to do comparisons against other cars then have a look through the site for the .ecu files and load them into elanscan, however, to make the comparison you will need to log the ECU output as you replicate the same type of scenario, e.g. 0-60.

I know this isn't much help, but as with all diagnostic data, unless you are looking for specific analysis it's just data.

well, the thing is, there are a few things going wrong, well, not exactly wrong, but not quite right.

the idle doesnt always drop back to 1000 right away as it should after driving, it sometimes hangs around the 2k area for a few seconds then drops back slowly

my boost guage only goes to 0.6 occasionally, it ususally maxs out at about 0.4 or so

am i getting maximum power delivery or not?

questions questions questions

oh yeah, is there anything noted down (or in the program itself) that tells me what each flag means

the list could go on
