I've not kept up to date with Elan related information over the last 10 years or so
and currently having some issues with the car and I seem to have misplaced my elanscan cable.

Is there anyone still making them, be willing to make 1?
or anyone interested in selling that they no longer need?

Reading another post, will elanscan now work on a windows 10 laptop via USB cable
or do I still need my old windows xp mini laptop with serial port?

Thank you for any help or advice.

wayne, below your post in 'Elan Interface' on the Index page is a(nother) 'sticky' which has details about the newest version Of ElanScan.

Image

We found the old version became denatured by the later versions of Win10 and all Win11 versions, so in 2024 gurus such as RonR, KenS and Matts brought it up-to-date with a revised version and associated protocol - and this current version is called 'ElanScan_beta_USB'

There are YouTubes on cable-making instructions. Geoff and Tuga have made them in the past and a local pal of mine got his from an ebay source (tho' we need to investigate an anomaly with his cable/software/hardware ...)

I'd advise you to read the 'sticky'; there's also info on parameter suggestions to set up this updated version if you feel you need them, too.

Additionally, it is possible to bring the whole thing even further into the 21st century by using a bluetooth connection between the car and the laptop - I have no clue about how to build a dongle thingy to plug into the ALDL socket, as Geoff just sent me one in the post many years ago to "test".....

..... I think someone (maybe Ken??) has done some work on a version of this approach, and set up an Android App for real time interrogation - but I don't know if it records or not.

I simply leave it plugged into the car, and when needed, I connect one of my laptops (one W10, one W11) by bluetooth and it just works! - no need to worry about drivers etc every time W11 "improves" as the Bluetooth still connects.

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?

Chrism and Dapinky, I'm trying to catch up on the info on the latest versions of Elanscan and what cables or bluetooth interfaces are still available to buy ( I don't see me capable of making my own, I tried and failed). If Geof still sells the bluetooth modules, I would be very interested in buying one.

wayne, don't quote me on this, but I had a feeling that Geoff has made cables in the past and KenS initiated the bluetooth adapters- but you'll need to trawl the past threads to find out for sure...

If that's indeed the case, it might be worth a message to either or both to see if they have anything going spare, or left over, that can help you out?

(I'm running both cable and bluetooth successfully on an old 2013 Lenovo x230 that's 'maxxed out' to win10. It can't update to win11 but it's okay, my PC does that...)

ps I've never felt brave or talented enough to attempt to update wiki but if anyone can, they'd be doing us a few favours now that the 2024 EScan is in rude health again.

I suspect it might reinvigorate those with cables or blueteeth(?) who realise that RonR, KenS and Matts have pulled EScan back in from out-in-the-cold. Like me I think loadsa LEC-ers thought it had 'run it's course' in the same way that Mountain chips seemed to have done :D - and thought they'd missed the party :( .
