bad echo

my elanscan is used to write "bad echo (sent:F45601B5)" when the car is connected with the engine running. what does it means????

I ran Elanscan for the first time yesterday and got the same.
I ignored it and got a sensible set of readings.

May be it is just its way of telling you that the ECU is alive?

Bad echo happens when elanscan doesn't hear it's own request for data from the ECU.

This could be due to:
1. Com Port not set up correctly
2. Cable not secured properly at either end
3. Dodgy cable (perhaps Geoff is losing interest)
4. Knackered ECU

If you are only seeing this once or twice, that's normal, sometimes the message fails, and Elanscan should be logging a fair amount of data.

If the list of Bad Echo messages fills the message window and no data is logged, please see points 1-4 above.
