Help Please, Elanscan No Reply log message

Hi, would really appreciate some help/advice on getting Elanscan to work.

I have got a USB interface from Geoff which I have set up on 2 separate laptops both running Windows XP. On both machines the drivers install correctly and I am able to select a com port (I have tried many different ones) and set the latency to 1.

When I start Elanscan listening with the ignition on or the engine running all I get is the No reply message in the log. I have tried many different settings on the com port i.e. latency, num bytes etc to no avail and have run out of things to try does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?

The best thing to do is try and find another owner close to you... or go the the Southern Area Meet at the Hen and Chicken in Alton, and try your PC and interface on another Elan, and hopefully get someone else's interface/PC to try it out on yours...

Good idea, is there anyone near Basingstoke with elanscan that works who would be prepared to help?

Sorry Alex, I missed this one. The interface should be fine as I try them all on the bench and on the car (with extended cables to make it worst case) before sending them out and the usual solution to your type of problem is to set the latency to 1, but you appear to have confirmed that.

As you have an opto-isolated interface, the fact that you're getting a reply indicates that you are connected to the ECU as the power is there for the optocouplers and it is seeing the reflected command words from the pc. The error log can be confusing as it displays previous errors even after the comms are set up so the thing to check is whether you are getting any data returned - check the PROM ID, TPS voltage, battery voltage etc. If comms are established then TPS voltage will change as you press the accelerator.

If you still aren't seeing anything, then it may be a problem with your ECU ALDL line (someone else has had similar problems which I am going to investigate at Donington) so let me know how you get on.

I'm not getting the prom Id come through just the message in the error log. Do you have any info on how to check the aldl line? I've removed the ecu to try and see where the wires go but they dissapear into a loom on the left. I've got a multimeter and reasonable competance with electronics so any pointers would be helpful.

There should be 0V on pin A (Orange lead on your interface), 12V (permanently) on pin F (green) and 5V through 10kohm on pin G (yellow).

Right I have checked the voltages and they are as follows with the ignition on without the engine running

0v on A (Orange) 11.8 on F (Green) and 4.85 on G (Yellow)

Does this seem correct?

I've tried it on another car now with the same problem so I'm obviously doing something wrong. So hopefully you can point me in the right direction at Donington.
