Another request for first Elanscan interpretation

Postby MPx » Sun 06.09.2009, 22:14

Muppet alert! It took me quite some time to get the drivers installed correctly under Vista despite excellent write up on here. Not sure if I've even managed to save the files correctly  let alone attach them here! But hopefully there is something to look at and I have now done three runs and would be very grateful for feedback on anything I need to sort out.

Background:
Car is an S2 with 47000 miles and I believe factory spec. I'm asking for some feedback on the car before I make changes which will be V5 Switcher; 2 1/4" Piper exhaust with PCE; and BobBs brake upgrade. Hopefully there will be a positive benefit once changes are made and I'm hoping the graphs will show it. I'd like to know if there's stuff that needs attention that wont get fixed by the above mods and that I should attend to first or at least in addition to the upgrades.

The exhaust had cracked and has been gun gummed for these runs (I think its properly sealed but you never know). The first run was soon after I fixed the exhaust to was very light throttle just to see if the comms were working and I could save it. The two other runs involved some use of full throttle - which I think shows boost is about right for an S2. The second half of each run is an uphill stretch so worked the car quite hard.

Soooo, what do I need to know? Many thanks.....

:poke: Grateful for any thoughts on run 2 or 3....even if just to say that all's as well as might be expected before the new chip's installed.

MPx I gather that you didn't switch off the ignition between run2 & run3
There are 5 knock events: 4 in run2 and 1 in run3
There is 1 knock retard event of 1.1 degrees at 327.7 secs (run3) which is not associated with the knock event in that run (43.8 sec) which seems weird.

Someone wiser than me will have to tell you if any of these is significant.

Can't see anything untoward Mike. As Tony says, the knock retard is a bit strange as it does not seem to correspond to any abnormal signal. It only lasts for ~5 samples / 1.2s so it is probably not worth worrying about.

I was about to say 'don't expect Bob's brakes to make a difference' however.......... it would be very interesting to see a few before and after braking runs. To get the best resolution, set the acquisition time to 10ms after you've hit <F1> and make sure your laptop is somewhere safe!

Many thanksTony/Geoff. Been away for a couple of days so apols for delay in gratitude.

Didn't realise I should switch off between runs (doh!) I saw the knocks, but read somewhere on here that a total lack of Knock while theoretically ideal was unlikely to happen in practice unless (ironically) something was wrong. So I though just 5 was prob pretty good - but I haven't got any sort of feel for scale with these things. I didn't notice/appreciate the timing differences...thanks for the spot....very odd really, but with only one sample event not much to go on.

There is a convenient run I can do - which is what is captured here. Its fairly short and requires warming the car first....but assuming the car is up to temps/etc is this a useful reporting period or should I be capturing files of longer or shorter duration to make it easiest for you guys to help me?

I'll try to have a go at the comparative brake test. New brake stuff still not arrived, but I think it will soon, so I'll get on with the chip change and do a couple of "laps" with a (old) brake test at the bottom of the hill - always assuming I'm the only car in the village.... !

Not sure if I've quite got what you wanted Geoff, but here goes. This file is with standard brakes
ESData005.zip

...and this is after fitting Bobs HiSpec kit
ESData008.zip

Not sure of all its telling us, but I did see -0.75g with the new set up vs -0.5g on the old. I still didn't manage to lock the wheels and the peddle isn't quite as firm as I'd like, so I may be able to do better idc. Also old file was std S2 I think whereas new file was no6 on the switcher - probably Everest?
