0-60 performance

Can ElanScan be used to determine the 0-60MPH performance? Or is the timing not accurate enough?
I would have thought that speed versus time would give the answer but so far I have not seen an Elanscan that even comes close to the 7 second specification.

I can't remember how often it samples all the sensors but it should be less than 0.1 seconds & this should be often enough.

I just don't think many of us on here are bothered with 0-60.
Blue Bullet asked the question of 0-60 a while back & nobody gave an answer using Elanscan.

I guess if you're tuning or setting timing, then it's a measure of how you're progressing? With the Elan being generally a turbo charged car (yeah, yeah, except the NA variant), 0 to 60 times will be slower compared to a non-turbo car. A better comparison of acceleration would be 30 to 70 or 60 to 90 times?

It's only visible after you've started running but reducing the acquisition period to less than the default 100ms will give slightly more data - I can't remember what the optimum setting is (before you start getting comms errors), but its going to be about 70ms according to my fag packet.

Thanks for the input. I have looked at a couple of Elan Scans including my own and see about 12 seconds which is not what the car is specified at.
I was doing this to obtain an indication of how well the "beast" was performing:)

How long's it been since you did all the normal tune-up type of things? It seems to me that on a Top Gear show a while back, they were supposed to modify a car to perform like a Mitsubishi Evo. IIRC it had about 70K miles on it, and the biggest impact they had on its performance was May doing basic tune-up/maintenance things, which brought its HP back to where it was supposed to be. They dynoed it before and it was down significantly from its rated HP.

I doubt that I could get the stated 0-60 time myself, even with everything working as advertised. I'm not that good, and I think conditions have to be perfect as well.

Good point about tune up.
Car has just come back from garage after having the timing belt changed so I really hope they checked timing

Here's an old graph of mine from when Alan was developing the Everest chips a few years ago.
The runs were done on my car on a flat road as part of testing the earlier chips (V3 & V4). The new chips are better, but the graph still shows that even a standard car can do 0-60 in under 7 secs without smoking tyres or burning your clutch out (it was my car, and I've still got it).

As cutlea01 says, you don't see a massive difference in 0-60 between the different chips because it gets there so quickly the increase in turbo boost (once it cuts in) doesn't have time to make much difference. The real beauty of the Mountain chips is the 30-70 (or whatever) performance, where you can see marked differences from standard.

If your car can't better 7 secs, it's time to do some basic timing checks, plug gapping, and question if the cat's blocked.

I think I saw a post some time back asking for some "good" scans, this would certainly help some of us who are trying to make sure everything is working well. Does anything exist?

Rip minewas running like a bag of spanners... I had a blowing exaust and timing was jumping all over with quite a bit of knock... this was all pre service, new pecco, new timing, alternator, pas belts pully water pump ect ect.... it runs a lot better now. Will have to actually do a scan when its rod worthy
