Ok , simple question i hope:

What is it, how do i get hold of it, what do i need to use it(ancillaries etc), does it store a history if problems in a memory, and how do i use it if i manage all of the above??

The reason i'm asking is that i have had two ocasions so far where i have started my S1 and got a CEL with the engine running very lumpy, on both ocasions it has been cured by simply turning the engine off and starting again, it hasnt happened in running.

The only thing i have checked so far is to see if all my cylinders are running, but i have only done this when the engine has started ok, to see if it was a lead problem i disconected one, started the engine, but it appeared to run ok on just 3 cylinders with no CEL lit.

You need the programme, a free download from Alan McNicol's (Elanscanman or ESM) site here:

You will need a laptop to run the programme in the car (I also have Elanscan on my PC to allow viewing of the info in comfort.

You will need an interface lead to connect the laptop to your car (ALDL connector in passenger footwell up behind the glovebox) Alan also makes and sells these and his site also gives info to allow you to make your own or links to other who will sell you one (I have one from Andy Whitaker).

Have a look at Alan's site I think it will answer all your questions.

thanks for the reply, i'll check it out straight away.

As for NI, its quiter than a very quiet thing on quiet sunday.

Forces drawing down, jobs going left right and chelsea, but apart from that, its still a beautifull country that i've enjoyed serving in, shame it rains 284 days a year and the summer only lasts a week mid july
