Alan's not doing the interface for the time being. I'll be buying some ALDL plugs in the near future (I only want two but there is a minimum order quantity) so if anyone desperately wants an interface, I could possibly knock a few out. Let me know if anyone's interested.

Yep, would be interested Geoff. Have had an old laptop sitting around for ages that would be ideal for running elanscan but haven't ever gotten round to making or buying a cable to connect it up.

Rear brakes done now John, so no excuse, well apart from the fact that I need to get my PECO exhaust ordered and fitted...oh and then there's the clutch that's on it's last legs :cry:

Still a bit confused so is elan scan something you do when you fit a chip because im planning to get an everest chip for mine.

No, you can get just as much benefit from Elanscan whether chipped or not.

Henry,

Chip gives yoy lots more power and can be fitted independently of Elanscan.

iirc - Elanscan is software that allows you to plug a laptop into your ECU using the a/m ALDL interface to read your ECU, helps with detecting faultcodes etc. You can record bhp and torque curves etc.

I haven't used it, seems far too complex, still trying to find the twin webbers under my bonnet, they seem to be missing

Maybe some of both. I hope to be able to let you know what's cooking soon. I presume the USB is prefered due to the standard / smaller lead and better retention in the socket?

PS Alan's aware of what I'm doing - I'm not going into competition with him, just trying to help him out with something he obviously finds a bit of a distraction from the important stuff he's doing on MEMCAL development.

Would other members inform me about "TECH 1" scanner?

Does it do more than ElanScan?

There are a couple of TECH 1 for sale on Ebay. Could I simply buy it? What else do I need? Software?

The Tech I was what dealers used. It would be a better diagnostic tool for problems probably, but does not record data as well. Laptop software has infinitely more memory and storage to record long sessions.

I seriously considered the Tech I when I was shopping, but it's use only on vehicles prior to about 1993/4 was a turn-off, as well as it's recording capability, etc. It would be very useful for things like troubleshooting ABS as the Tech I has the ability to command things on/off while laptop software is generally one-directional. Your cars don't have ABS, though, so that's one less plus in it's corner.

You'd need to make sure if you bought one that it had the correct cartridge and the correct cable for you to be able to use it on your car. I believe a Tech-IA has a serial cable to be able to transfer data to a computer.
