never got elan scan to work properly help!

I have had the interface and elan scan for ages now...I pop it on Laura every so often but it never seems to work ok....if it does eventually work it's only for a few secs, Ive tried contsct cleaner on the connecter..this is the second interface I have had from alan as well...anyone in the northwest want ot let me try it on there elan????
