Ignition problem_Electrical

Car has stood idle for 5 months (preventive maintenance). Before no starting problems at all. It started and ran ok. Clifford alarm has been deactivated for years. Key fob is used to start car. With key in ignition, I press the fob once and dashboard lights up and petrol pump activates. I turn the key and car starts. Now nothing happens when I press the fob. (New battery in fob).
It would appear to be due to lying idle as I never interevened at this level. Hazard switch works ok. Lights and wipers work ok.

Thanks for reply. Inertia switch in boot ok. No ignition lights, therefore no cranking or firing.
Before, when I pressed on key fob the ignition lights went on and I could turn key and car started.

It sounds to me as though the alarm may have been deactivated, but the immobiliser has not been (if it had, you wouldn’t need the fob to put the ignition lights on). I suspect the alarm/immobiliser contains a rechargeable battery which has completely discharged while the car has been out of use. The fob may be transmitting, but the immobiliser isn’t receiving or recognising the signal.

Unless you can trace the immobiliser wiring and remove it safely, your only option may be to contact Clifford and ask for help. Alternatively, a competent auto-electrician (if you have one near you) may be able to rectify the problem.

Problem solved. Faulty contact at immobiliser switch level. Cleaned up and engine starting and running fine.
