More Questions - Ignition switch

On my SE Trubo, there appears to be three positions on the ignition switch, the first switches nothing on, the second switches the ignition on and the third is the starter motor on.

i was looking to see if i could use the first position to supply the radio, but i wondered if all SE's have this three position switch? the wiring diagrams do not show a three position switch. Have the S2's got a three position switch?

i never paid attention to that. i will probably have a look tomorow.

i have seen mention of this, and exactly for the same reason you are refering. and i remember Pinky stating that the barrel is the same as [some other gm car] and you can swap it to achieve what you want to do. but that would require you to also add the wiring.

based on that recolection. i can only assume the position in the barrel is there, but the back of it doesnt have a wire connection...

there is also a possibilty you have an "upgraded" barrel. but the wiring not done for it...

i certainly will be chekcing my car. sometimes what one person doesnt see, another may have a look and find it...

I can't remember if all of them have the same barrel or not - but the point being that it is the same barrel as a Vauxhall Nova/Astra/Cavalier of the era, and when I bought a replacement for mine it came with the ignition switch with it (the black plastic part with the wires out of it)...... the actual barrel has no bearing at all on the wiring.

However....

.... the ignition switch (which is held to the barrel with the tiniest of screws that if you don't see them are easy to break) for the Vauxhall DOES have the extra wire for fitting a stereo. Everything else fits as per the Elan wiring, but there is the extra take-off to power the stereo from the fist click of the key.
