So the voltmeter gauge on my car packed in - became intermittent for a while then stopped working .
Checked connections good ground and supply - took the meter out, stripped it down, I found that one of the tiny coil wires had fractured near the solder joint - try as I might I couldn’t solder it back and being the internal end of the coil I couldn’t release more copper neither could I strip the enamel off to maybe add a bit of wire.
Faced with a bill for about £70 for new or £50 second hand I went onto Ebay to search for a donor, I found a Porsche 924 unit I offered £15 plus P&P and he supplied it.
Was a faff to get the bezel off ( M100 one was easy as it not peened) once I did that removed the needle and face, fitted the M100 ones , calibrated it on my variable PSU popped the bezel back on and bingo it’s working - the needle is not damped like the original but I’ll put up with that.
