May I introduce you to the most inaccessible and frustrating connector I am yet to find on my car?

The car has a Toad alarm which I mistrust. I suspect it is a drain on the battery. I contacted an alarm company who said that Toad no longer exist and there are no spares, so their advice was to remove the system.

Eventually I found a wiring diagram which shows Info removed by Admin

So off I went on my journey of discovery. Info removed by Admin

I spliced in a new bit of cable to join together the two ends of the black and red. Now for the difficult bit. Doing up the connector.

There is no space, there is no visibility. It is done by feel. And the problem is that there is only room for one hand which has to manipulate the two halves together. It took many attemtpts but finally hearing the clck was a real relief.

And the good news is that the car started up immediately and the key fob is no more.

Here is a photo of the offending part. I did it in the end by Info removed by Admin. But be prepared to be very frustrated.

i strongly suggest you edit some details.

the way the instalation was done in your car is not something id like disclosed pubicly... because theres a chance other cars have the same or other imobilisers installed in the same manner. i woudl rather force someone with malicious intentions to actually have to learn the hard way instead of getting easy access to examples of "how it can be done" via this forum

This alarm immobiliser was installed correctly - the difficulties you face in removing it are deliberate as Tuga says ( and why not remove it if your insurance company is cool with a 90’s car with no immobiliser or alarm)
I’d fit a decent tracker or two - job done.
Not a Lotus problem really is it.

I saw this thread when it started, and left it for a while to see if the OP would amend the information to something "more suitable" in relation to vehicle security.....

..... as it didn't happen, I have now done so myself.

I make no apologies for deletion of sensitive information as to how to get round an alarm system which is fitted to many cars (Elans and others) owned by members on the forum.

If anyone has a genuine need for this information, then please enquire, but don't expect any information to remain in the public view.
